SSM Overview
About the Salish Sea Model
The Salish Sea Model is a robust diagnostic platform that can reproduce characteristic oceanographic features such as two-layer, density-driven circulation and exchange with Pacific Ocean and annual biogeochemical cycles of algal growth, nutrient consumption, pH, and dissolved oxygen response. For over 15 years, PNNL has been refining the model’s simulation capabilities, which include multiple hydrodynamic processes, circulation transport of exchange flows through interconnected basins, simulation of multiple water quality and biogeochemical frameworks, and toxics fate and transport.
