A diversity of opportunity
PNNL creates learning opportunities through strategic instructional design and systematic science-based approaches. Our training experts leverage our science and technology resources, customized curriculum, and advanced facilities to deliver national security training programs in every corner of the world.
For more than five decades, PNNL has brought this training to partners worldwide, including U.S. federal government staff, regulators, policymakers, police and security officers, nuclear facility staff, International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors, and intelligence community analysts.
Our training team brings together certified instructors, course managers, and subject matter experts who have widespread educational and professional backgrounds.
Equally diverse are the students we train—law enforcement personnel, port authority staff, security guards, health officials, transportation specialists, and military representatives. We also engage the next generation. For example, we host the Radiation Detection Nuclear Security Summer School to engage university students in the technical foundations, analysis, and insight that will be needed by future leaders in technology development for nuclear security.
At the HAMMER training center in Richland, Washington, PNNL conducts hands-on training in nuclear and radiological detection, identification, and interdiction. Combined with a catalog packed with diverse opportunities—classroom lectures, practical demonstrations, e-learning—PNNL designs or adapts national security training materials and exercises to create a full-service learning experience fit to clients’ diverse training needs.
