Living a PNNL and Battelle Value
At PNNL, our employees are passionate about giving back and their volunteer efforts are a reflection of PNNL’s quest for “excellence in community engagement.” This means ongoing engagement with neighbors to improve lives, provide opportunities, and be an economic partner and resource for local industry. PNNL is deeply involved in the community through individual volunteer efforts, Team Battelle projects, and Battelle corporate philanthropy.
Creating Connections
Team Battelle—Battelle’s volunteer program—and PNNL’s Office of STEM Education enable connections, matching community needs to a pool of ready and able volunteers.
Through Team Battelle, employees give their time and talent to vital community programs—coaching and tutoring middle school students with our Math Mentors and Coaches project, supplying winter necessities as part of Coats for Kids, filling the food pantry at the Tri-Cities Food Bank, and so much more. Employees have volunteered more than 500,000 hours since Team Battelle began at PNNL in 1999.
Working with the Office of STEM Education, school districts and STEM-related organizations can request volunteers through our STEM Ambassador program to carry out mutually beneficial goals in science, technology, engineering, and math. Volunteers inspire and grow the next generation of scientists. People in the community will find PNNL staff volunteering at the Department of Energy Regional Science Bowl, their child’s classroom, or the local robotics competition all because of PNNL’s Office of STEM Education volunteer efforts.
