Vision
Driving Integrated Science and Technology for a Larger Vision
PNNL has developed a wide collection of technologies and capabilities over the past decade, both through internal investments, and through sponsored projects. The Laboratory Objective is bringing these activities together and focusing them on achieving the strategic vision of autonomic control. This includes:
- Methods for pervasively discerning a system’s state and the possible effects of perturbations to that state
- Linking these heightened perceptions with adaptive control
- Advanced methods for discovering systemic behaviors indicative of potential hazards or hostile activity
- Power grid and other critical infrastructure-specific applications
- Environments for testing, experimentation, and high-fidelity data generation
- Modeling and simulation to enable effects forecasting within dynamic complex systems
- Empowering humans appropriately in concert with computer systems
- High-performance computing, specialized architectures, and applications, such as analysis of large-scale graphs
