RemPlex Seminar: Research Priorities for Environmental Remediation
- Tuesday, March 31, 2026
- 8:00–9:30 a.m. PDT | 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. EDT
- Register in advance on Zoom

The remediation of complex, contaminated sites remains one of the most technically challenging and societally important missions facing the global environmental management community. Remediation challenges can be related to heterogeneous subsurface conditions, mixed contaminant types/co-contaminants, long and costly remediation efforts, and/or the need to achieve long-term protection of human health and the environment.
This seminar will examine research priorities in 2026 and beyond through U.S. and international perspectives. The goal is to provide insight into areas where improved technologies and approaches are needed to make progress for cleanup efforts in ways that are technically effective, cost efficient, and have shorter remedy time frames.
Presenters include:
- Mark Toner, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency: Identification, Hazard Assessment and Remediation of Radioactive Contamination at Dalgetty Bay, Scotland
- Frank Wigley, UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority: Overview of UK Research Needs and Directions
- Rod Rimando, Director of Technology Operations Office, U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management: Soil and Groundwater Cleanup Priorities for DOE Environmental Management Sites
- The panel will be moderated by RemPlex leaders: Director David Peeler, Deputy Director Carolyn Pearce, and Operations Director Christian Johnson.
