Overview
The Center for the Remediation of Complex Sites (RemPlex) invited participants to the 2021 Global Summit on Environmental Remediation, organized in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Summit— held virtually November 8-12, 2021, and hosted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)—provided an international forum where challenges, barriers, and innovative solutions for successful remediation and long‐term stewardship of contaminated sites were discussed to share lessons learned and to better understand remediation needs worldwide.
Sessions were structured around international case studies to provide a unique platform for knowledge sharing and technology transfer. Unlike other environmental remediation conferences that are centered on technical sessions with little opportunity for application‐based learning and client interactions, the Summit’s distinguishing international case study approach brought together participants from government, industry, and research institutions to examine site‐specific challenges and collaborate on application of both proven and innovative solutions. The integration of plenary and technical sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities provided interactive, practical experiences for translating site‐specific knowledge and lessons learned to the broader issues faced by the environmental remediation community.
