Biography

Jingshan Du is a materials scientist at PNNL after completing a Washington Research Foundation postdoctoral fellowship under the advisory of James J. De Yoreo. His research spans crystal formation and transformation pathways, in situ electron microscopy, and complex atomic configurations in nanostructures. At PNNL, he mainly develops new cryogenic liquid-cell electron microscopy techniques to support the mission of Office of Science Basic Energy Sciences in understanding crystal formation and materials transformation mechanisms. Du received his PhD in materials science and engineering in 2021 from Northwestern University under the supervision of Professor Chad A. Mirkin and Professor Vinayak P. Dravid. At Northwestern, he worked on complex nanoparticle systems, and nanoscale thermodynamics. He received a certificate in Management for Scientists and Engineers from the Kellogg School of Management in 2021 and a B.Sc. in engineering, materials science and engineering from Chu Kochen Honors College, Zhejiang University in 2015.
