Testing and Validation Room 1
T&V1 is designed to test cells and modules with different chemistries—flow batteries, sodium batteries, zinc-based, lithium ion, lead acid—at 10 kilowatt (kW) and 40 kilowatt hours (kWh), which is typical for understanding battery cells and modules before scaling to larger systems.

T&V1 can support the following battery technologies and associated energy capacities for each technology. The stored energy capacity of individual battery cells, connected cells, or battery modules shall not exceed the following table values in a single T&V1 test location:
| Battery Technology | Energy Capacity (kWh) |
|---|---|
| Lead acid (all types) | 70 |
| Nickel (Ni-Cad, Ni-MH, Ni-Zn) | 70 |
| Lithium ion (all types) | 20 |
| Sodium nickel chloride | 20 |
| Flow batteries | 40 |
| Other battery technologies | 10 |
