The Iowa Nuclear Energy Task Force, chaired by PNNL’s Mark Nutt, evaluated the state’s potential nuclear future including emerging technologies, workforce needs, waste management, and economic growth opportunities.
Connecting energy generation, electricity storage, and using sensors and control software to track load, including precommercial market marine energy generation technologies.
Engineers at PNNL devised a system that allows radar antennae to maintain stable orientation while mounted on platforms in open water that pitch and roll unpredictably. They were recently invited to participate in DOE's I-Corps program.
Researchers at PNNL advised elementary and middle school student teams with their problem-solving research for the FIRST® LEGO® League robotics competitions.
The ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit brings together researchers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to showcase the latest technologies shaping tomorrow’s energy landscape. This year, eight projects led by PNNL were featured.
The first tidal turbine deployed in the Pacific Northwest at PNNL-Sequim showcases the Lab’s growing role as a regional center for marine energy research.
With the launch of a large research barge, PNNL and collaborators took another significant step to improve offshore wind forecasting that will lower risk and cost associated with offshore wind energy development.
PNNL and collaborators developed new models—recently approved by the U.S. Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC)—to help utilities understand how new grid-forming inverter technology will enhance grid stability.
