METHOD OF EVALUATING CHANGE IN ENERGY CONSUMPTION DUE TO VOLT VAR OPTIMIZATION
A method of evaluating an optimization system is disclosed. The system is transitioned from an on state to an off state. Data is collected at time intervals for a time period before and after the system is transitioned from the on state to the off state. The transitioning occurs while a load of a particular type is active. In one embodiment, the optimization system is a Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO) system.
ENHANCING DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM RESILIANCY USING TRANSACTIVE MECHANISMS (iEdison No. 0685901-20-0037)
Intelligent sensor and controller framework for the power grid
Disclosed below are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for monitoring and using data in an electric power grid. For example, one disclosed embodiment comprises a sensor for measuring an electrical characteristic of a power line, electrical generator, or electrical device; a network interface; a processor; and one or more computer-readable storage media storing computer-executable instructions. In this embodiment, the computer-executable instructions include instructions for implementing an authorization and authentication module for validating a software agent received at the network interface; instructions for implementing one or more agent execution environments for executing agent code that is included with the software agent and that causes data from the sensor to be collected; and instructions for implementing an agent packaging and instantiation module for storing the collected data in a data container of the software agent and for transmitting the software agent, along with the stored data, to a next destination.
COORDINATION OF THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED LOADS WITH UNKNOWN PARAMETERS
Apparatus and methods are disclosed for coordination of a population of Thermostatically Controlled Loads (TCLs) with unknown parameters to achieve group objectives including bidding and market clearing strategies designed to motivate self-interested users to realize efficient energy allocation subject to a peak power constraint. In one examples of the disclosed technology, a method of operating a load includes estimating a set of values for unmeasured parameters of the load's thermal environment based on output measurements of the thermal environment, determining an energy response based on the estimated set of values for the unmeasured parameters, and transmitting a bid for power for a finite time period based on the determined energy response to the coordinator. A clearing price is received from the coordinator responsive to the transmitted bid and power is sent to the load responsive to the received clearing price.
ENHANCED ITACONIC ACID PRODUCTION IN ASPERGILLUS WITH INCREASED LAEA EXPRESSION
Fungi, such as Aspergillus niger, having a dolichyl-P-Man:Man(5)GlcNAc(2)-PP-dolichyl mannosyltransferase (Alg3) gene genetic inactivation, increased expression of a loss of aflR expression A (LaeA), or both, are described. In some examples, such mutants have several phenotypes, including an increased production of citric acid relative to the parental strain. Methods of using the disclosed fungi to make citric acid are also described, as are compositions and kits including the disclosed fungi. Further described are Aspergillus terreus fungi overexpressing the LaeA gene and the use of such fungi for the production of itaconic acid.
SYSTEM AND PROCESS FOR CONTINUOUS AND CONTROLLED PRODUCTION OF METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORKS AND METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK COMPOSITES
A MOF production system and method of making are detailed for continuous and controlled synthesis of MOFs and MOF composites. The system can provide optimized yields of MOFs and MOF composites greater than or equal to 95%.
Diffusion Barriers in Modified Air Brazes
In bonding an electroactive ceramic to structural metal for electrochemical device application, joining must typically be carried out in an oxidizing environment, nominally at a temperature greater than the device operating temperature (~800°C). Thus, the bond that eventually forms will take place between the functional ceramic component and an oxide scale that grows on the structural metallic component under these conditions. The objective in reactive air brazing (RAB) is to reactively modify one or both oxide faying surfaces with a compound that has been at least partially dissolved in a noble metal solvent, e.g. silver, gold, or platinum, such that the newly formed surface is readily wetted by the remaining molten filler material.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ION MOBILITY SEPARATIONS UTILIZING ALTERNATING CURRENT WAVEFORMS (iEdison No. 0685901-15-0003)
We developed a new device that can be utilized to perform efficient and versatile control of ion motion in the gas phase. The new device can be used to perform high resolution gas-phase ion mobility separation. The device can be also utilized to perform variety of ion manipulations such as trapping, switching, dissociation, reactions, etc. The ion manipulations are performed between two surfaces where appropriate RF and DC fields are applied to control the ion motion. The new device utilizes arrays of electrodes on two or more surfaces where a transient DC waveform is applied to array of DC electrodes to propel and control ions through the device. In one embodiment the confinement of ions inside the device is achieved by applying a radio frequency (RF) waveform to array of electrodes that are inserted between the arrays of DC electrodes. The new device allows flexibility of laying different electrode arrangements to perform different ion manipulations. A proof-of-concept experiment demonstrated an extremely high mobility resolution in a platform of a small footprint. The new device also allows the construction of extended 3 dimensional structures as well as miniaturization with ease.
