Partnership

This premier partnership launched to align the strategic capabilities of PNNL, as one of the most diverse Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories, and research strengths of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), America's leading hispanic serving institution and the only R1 with an open enrollment policy.
UTEP is America’s leading Hispanic serving institution—its student body is 84 percent Hispanic. It is an R1 research university, a designation given to the top 5 percent of colleges and universities nationally. Additionally, it is the only R1 that has an open enrollment policy. Forty-nine percent of UTEP students are first-generation university attendees. The trajectory of UTEP’s research and educational impact and the contributions to the future diverse STEM workforce made it an ideal collaborator for PNNL.
