PNNL is a key contributor to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission, a collaborative effort focused on using AI to solve some of the most pressing challenges in science, energy, and national security. We’re leading work that demonstrates how AI can be used to strengthen our economy and enhance national security.

PNNL’s research includes developing AI tools to advance biotechnology and produce specialty chemicals more efficiently; supporting the U.S. electrical grid by supplying operators with real-time data to better manage power supply and demand; and using AI to analyze materials more quickly and accurately, which helps the U.S. modernize its nuclear stockpile and improve manufacturing techniques.
