Biography
Nicolas (Nic) van Tulder is the group leader for the Threat Prevention and Resilience team in the Emerging Threats and Technologies Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). The group engages with international leaders, organizations, and practitioners to scan for emerging threats, understand evolving operating conditions, meet technology needs, and implement national security functions.
Prior to joining PNNL, he served in various roles as a cavalry and civil affairs officer in the U.S. Army. In 2022, he deployed to Ghana as the Civil Military Support Element—Ghana Commander and served as Special Operations Liaison to the U.S. Embassy Accra and the U.S. Agency for International Development—West Africa. In 2016, he served as a combat training advisor to Joint Multinational Training Group—Ukraine.
He received his undergraduate degree in international studies and economics from the University of Washington and has conversational skills in French, Spanish, and Modern Standard Arabic.
