Biography

Brian Abrahamson is an Associate Laboratory Director and the Chief Digital Officer for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), leading a talented team of professionals that span information technology, research computing, and cybersecurity.

The team has a clear mandate to leverage user-centered design to re-imagine how digital technologies can improve the research experience, enable data-driven insights for decision makers, enhance the efficiency of getting work done at the Laboratory, and accelerate PNNL’s scientific discovery with advanced computational testbeds and resources.

Brian is responsible for developing a Lab-level strategy to steward technical expertise in areas of computing that underpin programmatic success across the breadth of PNNL’s missions.

Having previously served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Company, one of the nation's largest investor-owned utilities, Brian returned to his home state of Washington in 2011 to join PNNL. Prior to that he spent 10+ years with Accenture, a management consulting organization, where he worked with technology and business leaders at over a dozen Fortune 500 companies to transform business operating models and lead digital transformation efforts.

Brian earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
