Lori Ross O’Neil Receives Local IEEE Award

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Richland section honors PNNL scientist

Congratulations to Lori Ross O’Neil (NSD) for being named the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Richland Section Women in Engineering (WIE) Engineer of the Year 2019. 

“Lori is an amazing project manager who actively tries to uplift women and work with them to help them prosper in their careers,” said Seemita Pal (EED), one of three IEEE WIE members who nominated Lori for the honor. “While working with her, I appreciated her mentorship and was impressed with how she could bring teams together and lead.” 

O’Neil has more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity and information technology, the last 10 years of which has focused on operational security of industrial control systems with a focus on the U.S. energy sector. She previously held various technical positions with NASA, focused on orbital vehicle missions and the manufacture of the last U.S. Space Shuttle.

In her current position as a cybersecurity project manager at PNNL, O’Neil manages energy cybersecurity research projects through partnerships with government agencies and industry to deliver innovative solutions in the mission to protect critical national infrastructure.  O'Neil is also currently serving a three-year term on the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2 board of directors.
