Lighting Metrology Laboratory

PNNL maintains and operates a nationally accredited Lighting Metrology Laboratory with staff expertise to evaluate advanced lighting systems and their applications. The Lighting Metrology Laboratory provides accurate testing of non-standard lighting products for comparison and application evaluation. Included in the laboratory are two Automated Luminaire Test Apparatuses (ALTAs), a 6-foot light integrating sphere, flicker measurement apparatus, vibration, and environmental chamber capabilities.
Evaluations and technology guidance often do not require testing but make use of PNNL's extensive experience in assessing manufacturers' information and test data. The PNNL accredited Lighting Metrology Laboratory offers the following wide-ranging capabilities when testing is needed to verify performance:
-
Photometric—verification of light output, color, and electrical input of lamps, luminaires, and other lighting products
-
Photoelectric—verification of the photometric and electrical characteristics of lighting and other products
-
Long-term performance—evaluation of the change over time of the light output and color characteristics of lighting products
-
Stress testing—evaluation of the robustness of lighting products
