STEM Education Resources

Ideas for students, educators, and community

PNNL’s Office of STEM Education provides resources for teachers, students, and interns to make participating in STEM education easier, more exciting, and accessible to all. We look for ways to connect PNNL’s science and technology research to support local and regional STEM education ecosystems.

Resources for Educators and Students

Let's learn together!

  • The Flooded Classroom provides a virtual field-based research exploration of a coastal ecosystem using 360-degree videos. The Educator's Guide provides additional resources for classroom integration and facilitation.
  • Teacher Resource Cards provide information about the climate, geology, vegetation, and terrestrial and aquatic wildlife of arid lands in the Columbia Basin. Each Teacher Resource Card contains background information, suggested activities to enhance understanding of the ecology of arid lands, and additional resources including curricula, books, and websites.
  • Activities and Explorations is a collection of videos, hands-on activities, lesson plans, and more for educators, students, and families to discover. These are some of our favorite, tried-and-true STEM education tools you can use to learn together.
  • Design Thinking Lesson Plans for 6th – 12th grade teachers.
  • Let’s use a cell-phone microscope! Watch and read how you can make your own.
  • Let’s learn together in virtual reality!
    • PNNL’s interactive Network Collapse App helps students learn about information networks¾how data are stored and protected.
    • PNNL’s Locating Luna App helps students learn about computing analytics “adventures” as they search for their dog Luna.
  • Let’s practice for the DOE Science Bowl!
    • Practice questions for high school students.
  • Let’s solve some crypto-puzzles!
    • CyberForce competition puzzles.
  • Download some STEM posters to print at home!
    • STEM posters in 8.5" x 11" size.
    • STEM posters in 11" x 17" size.
