Pillars of the Genesis Mission

The Genesis Mission is arranged in five pillars that integrate DOE’s and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s:

• Frontier-class AI models and autonomous agents
• Unique data assets across science, energy, and security 
• World-class high-performance computing, user and production facilities
• National Science and Technology Challenges (formerly Lighthouse Problems)
• Innovative public–private partnerships

PNNL plays a key role as the co-lead of the Models pillar. 

Transformational AI Models Consortium (ModCon) 

The Transformational AI Models Consortium (ModCon) is a foundational initiative of the Genesis Mission, mobilizing the nation’s scientific and technological resources to develop and deploy groundbreaking AI models that revolutionize scientific discovery. By harnessing DOE’s unparalleled data, facilities, and expertise, along with pioneering industry collaborations, ModCon is driving advancements in science, energy, and engineering to elevate national competitiveness and foster prosperity.

The American Science Cloud (AmSC) 

The American Science Cloud (AmSC) platform empowers AI-driven scientific advancements at scale by integrating data, models, and high-performance computing across DOE laboratories. Through unified APIs, secure enclaves, and scalable services, AmSC fosters collaboration and innovation while seamlessly incorporating commercial cloud solutions into a secure, adaptable hybrid environment. Serving as the backbone for the ModCon, AmSC accelerates scientific discovery and strengthens U.S. leadership in science and technology.
