Biography

Joshua Silverstein’s contributions and research focus are in microstructural characterization and microstructure-property relationships of metallic alloys, ceramics, and glass materials. He has extensive experience in applying electron probe microanalysis for material characterization, in addition to scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and focused ion beam.

Since starting at PNNL in 2019, Silverstein has focused on materials development activities associated with characterization techniques for nuclear waste form development, processing, and testing. Other activities include microstructural characterization and chemical analysis of tritium producing components, solid phase processing conditions, and aluminum alloy extrusion processes.
