Biography

Joe Ryan is a materials scientist and team lead within the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory National Security Directorate's Advanced Engineered Systems group. He specializes in the study of the structure and properties of materials with a focus on surface-related techniques and effects. A Fellow of the American Ceramics Society, Ryan has approached materials science problems by leveraging a wide variety of processing and characterization techniques to achieve novel functionality in bulk and thin-film materials. He is a member of the Glass Additive Manufacturing International Consortium—a group that is looking to achieve real-time feedback for property-specific materials fabrication.
