The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) recently awarded PNNL’s Robert (Bob) Davis the IES Presidential Award for his ongoing efforts to foster dialogue about light and human health amongst researchers and professionals from various fields.

Bob, who joined PNNL in 2013 as a senior staff lighting engineer, spent 18 months as chairperson for the committee that planned the biennial IES Research Symposium, which took place April 8-10 in Atlanta. Over 230 people attended the society’s fourth research symposium, titled Light + Human Health, making it the best attended event to date.

The Research Symposium brought together academics and researchers who study light’s effect on sleep and health issues, with architectural design, technology development, and manufacturing professionals from the lighting industry. In addition to chairing the planning committee, Bob served as the event’s host, delivering opening remarks and introducing the keynote speaker, Dr. Samer Hattar, and moderating the panel “Developing metrics for light and health applications.”

IES President Cheryl English presented Bob with the Presidential Award at the IES Annual Conference in Boston. The award is given at the discretion of the president for exceptional leadership and service to the IES.
