Here we report the ability to perform thin-layer spectroelectrochemistry using an aqueous micro-drop. The thin-layer setup was evaluated using [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- as a absorbance based model analyte and [Ru(bpy)3]3+/2+ as an emission based model analyte. The thin-layer capability of the electrochemical cell was validated with these two chemical systems using cyclic voltammetry, and UV-visible absorbance and luminescence spectroscopies. This work supports our FCRD process monitoring work and is a direct result of the collaboration under subcontract with University of Cincinnati.
