Sensor Development for Liquid Water Detection in Dry Storage Casks: FY 2023 Status
Abstract
Non-invasive methods for detecting liquid water inside of dry cask storage systems (DCSSs) are being investigated with low frequency guided Lamb waves that are introduced and propagate through DCSS structures. The method of liquid water detection is proposed based on transducers that can be mounted to exterior surfaces of the cask avoiding any need to compromise or penetrate the confinement boundary. This report summarizes the results from recent computational studies investigating the influence of cask internals on the lamb wave propagation and response.Published: November 20, 2025
