Renewable Energy Opportunities at Fort Hood, Texas

Abstract

This report presents the results of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s (PNNL) follow-on renewable energy (RE) assessment of Fort Hood. Fort Hood receives many solicitations from renewable energy vendors who are interested in doing projects on site. Based on specific requests from Fort Hood staff so they can better understand these proposals, and the results of PNNL’s 2008 RE assessment of Fort Hood, the following resources were examined in this assessment: • Municipal solid waste (MSW) for waste-to-energy (WTE) • Wind • Landfill gas • Solar photovoltaics (PV) • Shale gas This report also examines the regulatory issues, development options, and environmental impacts for the promising RE resources, and includes a review of the RE market in Texas.
