Quasi-operando quantification of Cu(II) ions in Cu-SSZ-13 catalyst by an NH3 temperature-programmed reduction method

Abstract

A quasi-operando NH3 temperature-programmed reduction (NH3-TPR) method is described for quantifying isolated Cu(II) ions (i.e., [Cu(OH)]+-Z and Cu2+-2Z) in Cu-SSZ-13 after quenching SCR reactions. NH3 reduces both Cu(II) ions with Cu:N2 stoichiometry of 1:1, but [Cu(OH)]+-Z reduces at lower temperatures. The accuracy for this method is confirmed by in-situ EPR.
