Power Fluidics & Online Spectroscopy for Reprocessing Plant: Development of Online Monitoring System (CRADA 605) Final Report

Abstract

Integration of online monitoring (OLM) can have substantial benefits for process control, material accountancy, and upset avoidance in the reprocessing of used nuclear fuel. Results reported here highlight the development and integration of OLM into NuVision Engineering’s Power Fluidics test rig to perform real-time mass balance. The set goal was to determine if mass balance uncertainty could be achieved within ±1% of the actual value. While required assumptions ultimately impact results, it was found that this uncertainty could be achieved under a variety of system conditions.
