The Pit Disassembly and Conversion Facility (PDCF) is a plutonium processing plant in its final stages of detailed design for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Washington Group International, Inc. is the design agent for NNSA. When construction is complete at the Savannah River Site this modern facility will convert surplus nuclear weapon pits into unclassified oxide suitable for storage, inspection, and disposition as a commercial nuclear plant fuel. DOE Order 420.1A, Facility Safety, establishes safety requirements for addressing nuclear safety and fire protection. Both of these safety analyses address fire hazards differently in their respective safety analysis documentation: the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis (PDSA) and the Fire Hazards Analysis (FHA).
