This manuscript provides a detailed description of synthetic procedures used to make the ligand bis(diethylphosphinomethyl)methylamine and a variety of nickel derivatives. These compounds are of interest because they exhibit many of the fundamental steps observed in hydrogenase enzymes. Although these procedures (or slight variants of them) have been published previously, they will be checked by independent researchers to confirm their reproducibility. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is operated by Battelle for the USDOE.
