New Directions: Toward a community emissions approach

Abstract

Emissions inventories accounting for anthropogenic and natural inputs to the atmosphere provide critical information for modeling and observational systems that inform air quality and climate science and policy. This article argues that the need for accurate, timely and traceable inventories requires a broad science-policy community approach built on existing expertise, expanding data networks, evolving information technology, and improved interactions between data providers and users.
