This is an article for the Illuminating Engineering Society's LD+A magazine.
It addresses Melanopic/Photopic ratios, a metric that roughly calculates the portion of the visible spectrum from a light source that contributes to the ipRGC response, relative to the traditional photopic response. The paper explains weighting functions, and that there are four ways to calculate M/P ratios. These four methods produce different values, so it is incumbent on recommendations for M/P ratios (usually for health-related design) to list the method to use. Better still, the lighting and medical communities should standardize on one approach.
