Irregular applications are characterized by irregular data structures, control and communication patterns. Novel ir- regular high performance applications which deal with large data sets and require have recently appeared. Unfortunately, current high performance systems and software infrastruc- tures executes irregular algorithms poorly. Only coordinated efforts by end user, area specialists and computer scientists that consider both the architecture and the software stack may be able to provide solutions to the challenges of modern irregular applications.
