Integrated Testing Protocol for Determination and Prediction of Corrosion Inhibition and Material Longevity

Abstract

There is a critical need for an advanced testing protocol that evaluates and provides the scientifically-defensible understanding of the mechanism(s) and rates of corrosion and the protection provided by corrosion-inhibiting materials to enable scientifically-defensible predictions of performance assessment. Inherent in this requirement is an approach that provides a low-cost method for performance assessment, under realistic environmental conditions, that allows for timely material and equipment design optimization. This approach will reduce corrosion related maintenance and equipment failures, and limit the impact of corrosion on the DoD’s budget, decrease environmental impact, and improve operational readiness and performance.
