We report two different fromation mechanisms of triangular Au nanoplate through transformation of truncated octahedron and the direct formation and growth of triangular seed using liquid-cell TEM. This work stresses the great significances of thermodynamics and kinetics in the formation of triangular nanoplate and shape transformation.
