Estimated Diffusion Out of a TRISO Particle Under Ambient Conditions

Abstract

Many analyses performing diffusion calculations for tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) fuel focus on either reactor conditions or accident scenarios, both instances of elevated temperatures. However, it is worthwhile to understand the diffusion of different elements out of a TRISO particle at ambient atmospheric temperatures, i.e. atmospheric temperatures that are common on the Earth’s surface. This report will outline the thermal analysis and diffusion calculations and then present the results of a generic TRISO particle.
