Energy in Washington State Today: The Big Picture

Abstract

Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) provide world-class energy R&D to the U.S. Department of Energy, other U.S. federal agencies, and industrial and international clients. Sometimes, however, they like to look around at their own neighborhood. PNNL staff recently developed a profile of energy use and production in their home state of Washington, and this article is the first of two coming out of that effort. This first piece will outline the current energy situation in Washington, and the second one (forthcoming in the AeA Techline fall issue) will describe Washington's energy future.
