Divergent trait controls on soluble sugars and starch underlie global strategies of tree carbohydrate storage

Tropical carbon and water fluxes are typically assumed to be tightly coupled - defined here as exhibiting strongly positive correlations - since plants exchange water for carbon through stomatal conductance.
