Most oxygen-containing functional groups of GO are almost remained under visible light irradiation (> 420 nm), which is substantially different from that under UV light irradiation. In the presence of silver or gold ions, visible light irradiation induces the formation of metal nanoparticles on GO sheets without the need of any chemical reducing reagents.
