Substantial, but plausible, improvements in process economics will advance CO2 conversion down the demand/price curve, at least for C1 and C2 products. Electrolysis of CO2 can produce valuable chemicals, but only C1 products (e.g., formic acid, HCOOH, and carbon monoxide, CO) achieve competitive prices. Ethylene, and ethanol (C2 products) require still challenging improvements in the electrolyses and the surrounding economics.
