Automating Commissioning Activities: An Update with an Example

Abstract

Automation of functional testing and in some cases correction of problems detected during testing show promise for helping reduce the time required and cost for commissioning. These same methods can provide valuable information during routine operation of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems, as well as other building systems, to assist building staff attain and maintain high-performance operation. The paper provides an example of the logic used to automate functional testing and commissioning of humidity sensors and then goes on to show application of closely related sets of logic implemented in prototype software to illustrate how tools based on these methods might perform.
