In a previous Editorial, it was noted that the methods used to fund radiation protection research in the U.S. and Western Europe differed. Whereas the U.S. approach tends to favor single institution projects, the European method encourages (or requires) collaborations among institutions from different countries. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Another item that bears consideration is the method used to manage the project once it has received funding. That will be the topic of this Editorial.
