Communications

Everything we do in space will require timely, reliable communication. The space communications infrastructure is the backbone of mission data and voice communications—it enables telemetry and the transfer of commands, and it makes timing and navigational data available.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s history in communications research and development is expansive. Some areas of our work include:
- Standards definition and reference design
- Monitoring of wide spectrum communication
- Low-power protocol development (hardware, firmware, testing requirements, and execution)
- Cybersecurity (enhance, detect, identify, and/or characterize mobile communications and embedded firmware changes)
- Internet of Things connectivity
