Grid Resilience Team Leader and Electrical Engineer
Grid Resilience Team Leader and Electrical Engineer

Biography

Vishvas Chalishazar joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) as a power system research engineer in June, 2019. At PNNL, he leads the HydroWIRES Initiative portfolio of projects, sponsored by the Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office, which intends to explore hydropower’s role in strengthening the reliability of the electrical power system. Over the years, Chalishazar’s projects have been involved in modeling grid impacts caused by a variety of high impact, low probability events such as hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, and earthquakes. Chalishazar became the Grid Resilience Team Lead in 2023 and is now the Bulk Energy System Team Lead, leading a team of 8-10 world-class scientists who are globally well-recognized in their respective fields of expertise.

He received his undergraduate degree in electronics and instrumentation engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani-Dubai Campus, Dubai, UAE in 2011 and his MS in the electrical and computer engineering from Oregon State University in 2016 where his thesis was on “Designing of Nanostructured Optical Devices for Biosensing Applications.” Chalishazar received his PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Oregon State University in 2019 where his thesis was focused on “Evaluating the Seismic Risk and Resilience of an Electrical Power System.”
