Biography

Ryan Calkins is an advisor on ports, providing guidance on maritime and aviation energy innovation. His projects include supply chain analysis for offshore wind, market development for sustainable fuels, and port optimization planning for resilience, emissions reductions, and competitiveness. In addition to his work at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, he has served on the Port of Seattle Commission, the governing board of our region’s largest airport and seaport, since 2018.

Prior to joining Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Calkins was the executive director of a nonprofit dedicated to statewide economic development through emerging technologies. For more than a decade, Calkins ran an import and distribution company in Seattle that was recognized for its industry-leading sustainability initiatives.
