Materials Scientist

Biography

Nicole Overman is a materials scientist in the Applied Materials and Manufacturing group at PNNL, and she has been at the lab since 2009. Her specific areas of expertise include materials characterization and analytical chemistry. Her current research direction is focused heavily on metallic deformation analyses.

Overman has worked on a variety of research projects for the U.S. Department of Energy supporting ultra-sensitive nuclear measurements, dark matter experiments, fusion energy sciences, friction stir weld characterization, and solid phase processing. She has also worked for private clients, such as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (studying stress corrosion cracking behavior) and General Motors.

Since 2019, Nicole has led a team of mechanical and materials engineers that specialize in solid phase processing, characterization, and mechanical testing.
