Biography

Mike Wasem supports communications for U.S. Department of Energy customers, including the Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO), Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) user facility, Atmospheric System Research (ASR) program, and the Earth & Environmental Systems Modeling (EESM) program. He also works with PNNL’s Institute for Integrated Catalysis. He previously worked in PNNL’s External Communications group and supported outreach for the Laboratory Director’s Office.

Before joining PNNL in 2010, Mike spent eight years as communications and media relations manager for the Port of Tacoma, Washington. There, he managed marketing outreach, media relations, and worked on strategic communications issues, ranging from business development, land use, and maritime security to environmental remediation. He previously worked at several Seattle-area advertising/public relations firms, specializing in transportation, supply chain logistics, heavy vehicle finance, and heavy equipment manufacturing

Awards and Recognitions

  • Work at the Port of Tacoma received dozens of awards from the Transportation Marketing & Communications Association (TMCA) and American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), including the AAPA’s Overall Award for Excellence in Communications Programs among all large Western Hemisphere ports three of six years.
  • Projects and programs have earned numerous awards from the Seattle chapters of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
