Biography

Matthew (Matt) Fountain has extensive experience in the field of development engineering. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Washington State University. Fountain spent his early career developing gas pre-concentrator technologies for chemical agents, multiple other heat transfer technologies, and an ammonia reformer for a portable fuel cell system.

Since joining PNNL in 2004, Fountain has spent most of his professional career on engineering applications surrounding waste treatment technology, nuclear fuels fabrication, and multiple other projects related to heat transfer and recovery applications. As a result, Fountain has considerable experience with design, equipment fabrication, construction, remediation, process instrumentation and controls, slurry sampling and analytical analyses, and plant operations. Fountain is accomplished in project leadership, technical leadership, and business development.

Since 2014, Fountain has provided project and technical leadership, with extensive business development, while serving his role as a technical advisor on all issues related to the River Protection Project Integrated Flowsheet Mission for the Hanford Site. The projects Fountain manages require significant reach-back collaboration with PNNL staff and institutional capabilities. He maintains embedded client positions, with offices with both the Washington River Protection Solutions and the Department of Energy Office of River Protection to influence strategic decisions for risk mitigation while reducing life-cycle costs and mission schedule for the Hanford Site waste treatment mission.
