Biography

Dr. Leonard F. Pease is the group leader for the Operational Systems Engineering Group in the Earth Systems Science Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). His research includes leading the invention and development of the mesofluidic suite of separations technologies for slurry processing. Also, since spring 2020, Dr. Pease has been evaluating how COVID-19 transports through buildings.

He originally joined PNNL in 1992, leaving to pursue and obtain a PhD in chemical and materials engineering from Princeton University, specializing in electrohydrodynamics and polymer patterning. Thereafter, he pursued research at postdoctoral level at the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), specializing in virus characterization using aerosol techniques.

After founding two companies to commercialize biomedical solutions he and his team invented, Dr. Pease returned to PNNL to support jet mixing, slurry transport, industrial hygiene, thermodynamics, advanced manufacturing, and mesofluidic separations projects. His expertise includes analytical and computational modeling, quality assurance, and flowsheet improvement. He has a broad technical background and a strong approach to innovation and multidisciplinary thinking.
