Biography

Kriston Brooks is the Project Management Office director (PMOD) for the Nuclear Science and Legacy Waste Project Management Office at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).  As PMOD, he is responsible for operational oversight and execution of projects related to nuclear energy and legacy waste management. Projects within this Project Management Office include the development, design, and safe operation of nuclear and radiochemical processes, systems, and facilities that produce nuclear energy and radioisotopes and the disposition of legacy nuclear materials.  Research spans basic science to applied engineering development and deployment across sponsors that include the Department of Energy Office of Science, Office of Nuclear Energy, Office of Environmental Management, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other governmental and industrial entities.

Brooks has worked at PNNL since 1992 in a wide range of fields.  Recent projects include hydrogen storage materials, surplus plutonium disposition, and fabrication of U-10Mo and U3Si2 fuel for the U.S. High Performance Research Reactors. Past projects include ion exchange, solvent extraction, cross flow filtration, and settle/decant development for the Hanford tank waste. He has also developed microchannel reactors, heat exchangers, and separators for NASA in various projects.
