Kristen Backstrom
Biography
Kristen Backstrom is a senior instructional system designer (ISD) and eLearning project lead for the National Security Directorate supporting the Nuclear Smuggling Detection Deterrence training program. Backstrom joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 2020. She has an MA degree in organizational management and over 25 years as a business consultant, corporate trainer, and university professor. In her role as an ISD, Backstrom develops engaging and interactive training materials for classrooms, virtual training, and eLearning environments using the Systematic Approach to Training methodology. Her current project work focuses on mobile detection system technology, radiation detection systems, general radiation principles, and Radiation Alarm Video and Event Notification central alarm station system administration. She enjoys collaborating with several subject matter experts, project managers, and other instructional designers across multiple Department of Energy laboratories.
