Biography

Ken Schmidt is an IT engineer with the Advanced Scientific Computing team in PNNL’s Environmental Molecular Sciences Division and the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) user program. Schmidt is the lead engineer for the high performance computing (HPC) capabilities. He joined PNNL in 2003 to help build one of the first top 10 Linux supercomputers in the world. He works in the HPC field focusing on networks and cluster administration, including multiple cluster deployments and developing routing novel routing algorithms for Infiniband networks. He became the lead engineer on Cascade, EMSL’s flagship HPC resource in 2017.
